Which renderer to use

Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.

Last confirmed 2026-10-06. That run predates per-report engine and macOS logging, so those are not recorded for it. A newer report would carry both.

Notes

Reported playable on D3DMetal, where four GameMaker error boxes come up before the game starts and the game plays after OK on each. On an M4 the demo started on DXMT went straight to its Choose a Language screen with no box, while D3DMetal stopped at the first box, so DXMT is the mode to use. The game itself was not played here. The full game is a separate Steam app (3530380), not tested.

Provenance

Reported by udance4ever (highball-db#343, 2026-10-05), Apple M1, macOS 27.0.1, Highball 0.10.8, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r21, D3DMetal, rated 4 of 5 after 5 minutes. Not verified by the maintainer.

Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.

Common questions

Does Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch Demo work on Mac?

Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch Demo has no native Mac build, but it is reported to run on Apple Silicon through Highball, a free open-source compatibility layer. This comes from community reports rather than a Highball test run, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a guarantee.

Which renderer should I use for Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch Demo?

DXMT. Highball can translate Direct3D through DXVK, DXMT or Apple's D3DMetal, and the right choice varies by game. The database records DXMT for Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch Demo. Highball uses it automatically when the game has a row; to set it by hand, open Settings, then Environments.
