Which renderer to use
Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.
| Renderer | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| DXVKDirect3D 9-11 over Vulkan | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| DXMTDirect3D 11 over Metal | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| D3DMetalApple's Game Porting Toolkit | Untested | no report yet — send one |
No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.
Notes
Car Parking Multiplayer 2 does not start on either engine: UnityPlayer.dll fails to initialize before the game writes its Player.log, on D3DMetal and on DXMT alike, without the bottle's winhttp override too. Players on Linux report it running under Proton (ProtonDB, 8 reports by 2026-10-21), so a protection that refuses Wine is unlikely. Advertise AVX to games has not been tried yet. Nothing was measured here.
Known issues
The game never shows a window: UnityPlayer.dll fails to initialize at startup (reported on an M1, macOS 27.0.1 and 15.7.8, engines r21 and r28, D3DMetal and DXMT, highball#295 and #435)
What helps none known
Why not found. It fails inside Unity's startup, before Player.log is written
Provenance
Reported by nik-19201 (highball#295, 2026-10-08), Apple M1, macOS 27.0.1, Highball 0.10.14, engine x64-crossover26.3-r21, D3DMetal and then DXMT, and by fajriyan (highball#435, 2026-10-22), Apple M1, macOS 15.7.8, Highball 0.10.22, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r28, DXMT. Does not start. Not verified by the maintainer.
Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.
Common questions
Does CPM 2 work on Mac?
CPM 2 has no native Mac build, but it is reported to run on Apple Silicon through Highball, a free open-source compatibility layer. This comes from community reports rather than a Highball test run, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a guarantee.
