Which renderer to use

Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.

No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.

Notes

Runs on Wine 11 with D3DMetal by outside reports, and fails to start on Wine 10, where CrossOver 25 shows 'no suitable 3D graphics'. Highball's Wine 11 engine is built from the CrossOver 26.3 tree, so that is the one to try, x64-crossover26.3-r19 or newer in an environment set to D3DMetal. Same engine family as Planet Coaster 2, which also needs Wine 11. Not run here.

Provenance

Outside reports, not verified by Highball: CodeWeavers' compatibility page rates it Runs Great on CrossOver 26.2 (codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/jurassic-world-evolution-2), a CrossOver 26 player on an M4 Pro reports about 50 fps on D3DMetal at high settings, and a CrossOver 25 player on an M4 got 'no suitable 3D graphics' at start. A Highball player could not get it to start on the default engine (highball-db#71, 2026-09-18).

Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.

Common questions

Does Jurassic World Evolution 2 work on Mac?

Jurassic World Evolution 2 has no native Mac build, but it is reported to run on Apple Silicon through Highball, a free open-source compatibility layer. This comes from community reports rather than a Highball test run, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a guarantee.

Which renderer should I use for Jurassic World Evolution 2?

D3DMetal. Highball can translate Direct3D through DXVK, DXMT or Apple's D3DMetal, and the right choice varies by game. The database records D3DMetal for Jurassic World Evolution 2. Highball uses it automatically when the game has a row; to set it by hand, open Settings, then Environments.
