Which renderer to use
Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.
| Renderer | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| DXVKDirect3D 9-11 over Vulkan | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| DXMTDirect3D 11 over Metal | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| D3DMetalApple's Game Porting Toolkit | Untested | no report yet — send one |
No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.
Notes
Feral's Mac port runs on Apple silicon, and Steam for Mac installs it with the same Steam purchase, though the store page names Windows only and Steam's data never marks the build as 64-bit. Highball offers that Mac version. The Windows version has no report here yet.
Provenance
Steam's app data for 438640 (checked 2026-10-12 through api.steamcmd.net) lists Mac depots and a Mac launch entry with no 64-bit mark, and its store page names Windows only. Two native reports on macgamingdb.app play the Mac build on Apple silicon, an M2 Pro and an M4 at a median of about 50 fps, which a 32-bit build could not do. udance4ever's Steam for Mac offers Install for it (highball#310). The Windows version has no report in Highball yet.
Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.
Common questions
Does LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens work on Mac?
Yes. Steam ships a native macOS build, which will beat running the Windows version through any compatibility layer.
