Which renderer to use
Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.
| Renderer | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| DXVKDirect3D 9-11 over Vulkan | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| DXMTDirect3D 11 over Metal | Reported | 2 reports |
| D3DMetalApple's Game Porting Toolkit | Untested | no report yet — send one |
No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.
Notes
Runs well once signed in, on the default engine with DXMT on an M1 Pro. The game signs in with a Microsoft account through Xbox's sign-in, and on the default Wine 10 engine Wine forgets that sign-in at every start: its credential lookup fails on macOS when the Keychain holds no match, so the Xbox sign-in never finds its saved key. Highball's Wine 11 engines carry the fix (engine patch 0019, made for Forza Horizon 6), and the recipe makes Play offer that engine. Confirmed with this game: on the Wine 11 engine r27 the reporter's sign-in stuck and the game rated 5 of 5 (highball-db#710). Nothing was measured here.
Known issues
The Microsoft account sign-in comes back at every start, and its 'Let's Go' step often does not go through (default engine)
What helps the Wine 11 engine (r18 or newer), which the recipe offers on Play (confirmed on r27, highball-db#710). By hand, the environment's settings, Advanced, Engine. On the sign-in pages, hold a button for about half a second rather than a quick click, and switch apps and back if a page sits
Why Wine's CredEnumerateW fails on macOS when the Keychain has no match, so Xbox's sign-in never finds the key it saved (the same bug as Forza Horizon 6 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024)
One-click setup
Highball ships a recipe for Minecraft Dungeons: open the game in your Library and apply it. The recipe carries the tested renderer and any per-game fixes, so you don't have to reproduce them by hand. Read the recipe.
Provenance
Reported by EdoardoSgherri (highball-db#707, 2026-10-26), Apple M1 Pro, macOS 15.7.3, Highball 0.10.22, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r28, DXMT, msync, vcrun2022, rated 3 of 5 after 9 minutes: the game itself runs perfectly, but the Microsoft account sign-in is asked again at every start and often never gets past its 'Let's Go' step. Not verified by the maintainer. The same reporter then moved the environment to the Wine 11 engine x64-crossover26.3-r27 and the sign-in stuck (highball-db#707, #710, 2026-10-26): rated 5 of 5.
Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.
Common questions
Does Minecraft Dungeons work on Mac?
Minecraft Dungeons has no native Mac build, but it is reported to run on Apple Silicon through Highball, a free open-source compatibility layer. This comes from community reports rather than a Highball test run, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a guarantee.
Is there a one-click setup for Minecraft Dungeons?
Yes. Highball ships a recipe for Minecraft Dungeons that sets the tested renderer and any per-game fixes. Open the game in your Library and apply it.
