Which renderer to use
Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.
| Renderer | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| DXVKDirect3D 9-11 over Vulkan | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| DXMTDirect3D 11 over Metal | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| D3DMetalApple's Game Porting Toolkit | Untested | no report yet — send one |
No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.
Notes
The Steam copy depends on EA's launcher: Steam runs the EA app installer before the game. On the default engine that installer rolls back at its last step: the EA app's setup moves its files into a versioned folder and leaves a directory link in their place, the prebuilt Wine 10 reports the link as made without making it, and the background service then cannot be found (INST-14-1627 here, INST-14-1603 for the reporter). On the Wine 11 engine the same installer completes and the EA app opens on its sign-in window (measured on an M4 on 2026-10-05), so the recipe asks for that engine and installs the EA app first. Whether the game itself then runs is not verified yet.
One-click setup
Highball ships a recipe for Mirror's Edge Catalyst: open the game in your Library and apply it. The recipe carries the tested renderer and any per-game fixes, so you don't have to reproduce them by hand. Read the recipe.
Provenance
Reported by udance4ever (highball-db#318, 2026-10-04), Apple M1, macOS 27.0.1, Highball 0.10.4, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r19, rated 1 of 5: the Steam copy runs the EA app installer first, and that installer fails. The installer failure reproduced here on an M4 (macOS 27.0, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r21) on 2026-10-05.
Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.
Common questions
Does Mirror's Edge Catalyst work on Mac?
Mirror's Edge Catalyst has no native Mac build, but it is reported to run on Apple Silicon through Highball, a free open-source compatibility layer. This comes from community reports rather than a Highball test run, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a guarantee.
Is there a one-click setup for Mirror's Edge Catalyst?
Yes. Highball ships a recipe for Mirror's Edge Catalyst that sets the tested renderer and any per-game fixes. Open the game in your Library and apply it.
