Which renderer to use
Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.
| Renderer | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| DXVKDirect3D 9-11 over Vulkan | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| DXMTDirect3D 11 over Metal | Untested | no report yet — send one |
| D3DMetalApple's Game Porting Toolkit | Untested | no report yet — send one |
No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.
Notes
The game showed its launch screen, then a black screen, then quit, on every graphics mode. Its log showed Wine refusing the fullscreen mode the game asked for. Since Highball 0.10.11 (0.10.15 for everyone) Emulate display mode changes on the game's page makes Wine list the older display modes, so that switch goes through and the picture is scaled to the screen. The game was not run here and the reporter did not confirm the fix.
Known issues
Black screen after the launch screen, then the game quits (reported on an M2 Pro, macOS 26.6.1)
What helps Emulate display mode changes on the game's page, Highball 0.10.15 or later, untested on this game
Why the game's fullscreen mode switch was refused, the mode was not listed by the Mac
Provenance
Reported by weincreative (highball#128, 2026-09-16), Apple M2 Pro, macOS 26.6.1, Highball 0.9.19. Not verified by the maintainer.
Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.
Common questions
Does Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones work on Mac?
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones has no native Mac build, but it is reported to run on Apple Silicon through Highball, a free open-source compatibility layer. This comes from community reports rather than a Highball test run, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a guarantee.
