The Dig on Mac

Reported working by the community, not yet run by Highball. Community consensus (AppleGamingWiki, r/macgaming); unverified by Highball.

no dated Highball run yet Steam 6040
There is a native Mac build. Steam's Mac version comes with the purchase; whether it still starts on current macOS was not checked here. ScummVM for Mac plays the Steam files either way. It is on Steam . A native build runs straight on Metal with nothing translating in between, so it will beat anything on this page. Other games in the same situation.

Which renderer to use

Highball can run each game through three different Direct3D translation layers. This is what the database knows for this title — empty rows are open questions, not failures.

No dated Highball run yet. When one lands it records the renderer, the engine build and the macOS version it was seen on — which is what stops a verdict quietly rotting. Send one.

Notes

Steam's Windows build runs the game in ScummVM. ScummVM for Mac (free, scummvm.org) plays the same Steam files natively, and Steam also sells a Mac version with the same purchase, not checked on current macOS here. Through Highball the window stays small and in-game speech is missing for the one report so far.

Provenance

Reported by tommireinikainen (highball#374, 2026-10-17), Apple M4 Max, macOS 26.6.2, Highball 0.10.15, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r26, DXMT: it starts in a small window that stays small in full screen, and speech played in the opening cinematic but not in play, where only text shows. Not verified by the maintainer.

Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the game already ships a native Mac build.
