World of Warships on Mac

World of Warships will not run on a Mac. Its publisher checks for macOS and stops the game on purpose, through Highball, CrossOver, Whisky or any other compatibility layer. That is the publisher's choice, not a bug anyone can fix here.

tested 2026-09-30, stopped by the publisher Steam 552990
Blocked by the publisher. The game stops itself when it finds macOS, whatever the renderer or the engine, so don't spend the download. The notes below say what it shows and when it was last tried.

What actually works instead

Cloud streaming runs the real Windows build on someone else's machine, where the check does not apply, if a service carries the game. GeForce NOW has a native Mac app and Xbox Cloud Gaming runs in a browser; both publish the games they carry.

Notes

Wargaming ended World of Warships on macOS, and the Windows game refuses to start on a Mac: after the region choice it shows "Sorry, unsupported operating system: macOS support has been discontinued" and quits. It asks Wine which system it runs on and stops when the answer is macOS, so the graphics mode and the engine make no difference. The launcher itself works. The download is 84 GB.

Provenance

Run here on 2026-09-30 on an M4 with macOS 27.0, engine x64-sikarugir10.0_6-r15, DXMT, the Steam version.

Common questions

Does World of Warships work on Mac?

No. The publisher of World of Warships checks whether the game is running on macOS and stops it on purpose, so it cannot run through Highball, CrossOver, Whisky or any other compatibility layer. That is the publisher's decision, not a bug. Cloud streaming runs the real Windows build remotely, where the check does not apply.
